JA of Valley changes name, expands reach | News, Sports, Jobs

GIRARD — Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley, an organization that helps set up local youth for economic success, is marking its 70th anniversary with a name change and a rebranded logo.

The new name — Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio — reflects the Girard-based organization’s commitment to a geographic area across Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties, according to a news release Thursday.

Its mission is to inspire and prepare young people for success by helping students connect what they learn in school to life outside the classroom, especially with money management, work, career readiness and entrepreneurship.

“We’ve worked closely with our partners in education, business and the community to ensure that we deliver proven, life-changing learning experiences to students. This process, which includes the use of innovative learning technology, accelerated significantly over the course of the pandemic. The time just felt right to make this change to update our brand to recognize what Junior Achievement has become,” said Michelle Merkel, president / CEO, Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio.

According to its website, the organization in 2020-21 reached 13,000 students locally and 545 classrooms across 70 schools. It recorded 65,833 contact hours.

The new logo and color palette resembles birds flying in formation, representing how one leader in the community working in tandem with Junior Achievement can impact many lives. The brand update is occurring with Junior Achievement operations across the U.S., and with more than 100 chapters worldwide.
